Aniimo Catching Guide: How to Catch Anything
Aniipods, backstabs, lucky strikes and the one legendary that plays by its own rules — every mechanic that moves your capture rate.
Catching is the core loop of Aniimo, and the game hides more depth in it than the tutorial shows: throw timing, positioning, Aniipod selection and the lucky-strike system all change your results. This guide covers every mechanic that affects capture rate and when to catch without fighting at all.
Catch mode basics
Enter catch mode to throw Aniipods at a wild creature. A ring indicator fills as the capture locks in — when it reaches 100%, press F to complete the throw. Throwing early at a partial ring is gambling; the indicator is the game telling you the actual odds, so use it.
What raises your capture rate
Backstabs
Throwing an Aniipod from behind the wild Aniimo backstabs it and gives a meaningfully better capture chance. Approach from the rear before you even enter the throw.
Lower target health
Weaken the creature in battle first. A damaged target is a softer capture — the classic loop is fight, break, then throw.
BREAK the target
A broken enemy is stunned and defenseless, which is the best possible window. Our break system guide covers how to fill the meter fastest — 1.6x weakness hits are the fuel.
Match the Aniipod to the target
Aniipods come in grades. A high-level wild creature shrugs off a basic pod; match the pod grade to what you are hunting instead of burning your supply on longshots.
Catching without fighting
Depending on the target's level and the Aniipod you use, you can catch wild Aniimo without battling them at all. Low-level creatures against strong pods are effectively free catches — but treat every throw as your only one rather than assuming a guaranteed follow-up, because missed pods are gone.
Lucky strikes
Version 1.1 added the lucky strike mechanic to catching. A lucky strike can:
- Grant item rewards on the spot
- Raise the area's Prismatic Energy
- Directly trigger Prismana Flow — attracting a Prismana Aniimo to the area
Lucky strikes are why steady catching is also ecosystem progress: every throw feeds the region's Prismatic Energy, which feeds Wild Surges, which spawn more Aniimo. The full loop is explained in our Bloom and Nurture guide.
Aniipod types and when to use each
| Pod | Use it for |
|---|---|
| Basic Aniipod | Everyday low-level catches and dex filling — cheapest coverage |
| Aniipod Pro | Mid-level targets and anything you actually plan to use; codes hand these out regularly |
| Higher-grade pods | High-level wilds, Alphas aftermath catches, and anything that must not get away |
| Legendary Aniipod | Crafted, not bought — see the Irisalis section below |
Which pod to throw depends on how much you value the catch versus your supply. A dex filler gets a basic pod; your next team member gets the best you have.
The Irisalis exception
The legendary Aniimo Irisalis follows completely rewritten catch rules introduced before launch. There is no repeat-throwing lottery: you collect legendary tokens through world exploration and story progress, craft your personal Legendary Aniipod: Windchaser's Departure from Iris Petals, and unlock Irisalis's exclusive story. The crafted pod guarantees a 100% capture, a creature with Perfect Innate Potential in Sparkling Form, and exclusive seasonal perks — and the encounter only happens once, so make it count. The devs have said this template applies to every legendary to come.

FAQ
How do you catch Aniimo?
Enter catch mode, weaken the target in battle if needed, position behind it for a backstab bonus, and throw an Aniipod matched to the target's level. Wait until the capture ring reads 100%, then press F to complete the catch.
Can you catch Aniimo without fighting them?
Yes — depending on the creature's level and the Aniipod grade you use, some wild Aniimo can be caught without a battle at all. Low-level targets against strong pods are effectively free catches, but a failed pod is still consumed, so do not spam throws you do not believe in.
What is a lucky strike in Aniimo?
A lucky strike is a bonus event added in version 1.1 that can trigger during catching. It grants item rewards, raises the area's Prismatic Energy, and has a chance to directly trigger Prismana Flow, which attracts a Prismana Aniimo to your area.
How do you catch Irisalis?
Irisalis cannot be caught by repeating throws. Collect legendary tokens through exploration and story progress, craft the Legendary Aniipod: Windchaser's Departure from Iris Petals, and complete Irisalis's exclusive story encounter. The crafted pod guarantees the capture — but the encounter happens only once.
