The Five Aniimo Combat Roles
DPS, Break, Support, Heal, Regen — what each role does and how the Break-buff-burst-sustain loop wins fights.
Every Aniimo in a fight slots into one of five combat roles. The labels are the fastest way to read what a creature does before you have played it — and the difference between a team of five strong creatures and a team that wins is whether the roles are covered. This guide defines all five, what to expect from each, and how they click together.
The five roles
DPS — the damage core
DPS creatures deal the majority of your damage. This is the first slot to fill and the one to invest your best materials in. A team without real DPS stalls on deep HP pools no matter how clever the rest of the comp is.
Break — the meter attacker
Break specialists exist to drain the enemy's break meter. A full meter breaks the enemy — stunned and taking a burst of extra damage. Widely considered the second-most important slot: Break creates the windows your DPS lives in. Full meter rules: break system guide.
Support — the multiplier
Supports apply buffs and debuffs — typically raising elemental damage for the team or shredding enemy resistances. Their damage numbers look small; the team's damage numbers say otherwise.
Heal — the direct sustain
Healers keep the team alive with direct recovery skills. In longer fights — Alpha and Omega bosses, Holo-Battle routes — a Healer is the difference between a clear and a wipe.
Regen — the energy engine
Regen creatures supply EP (energy) recovery, keeping the whole team's skill loop running through extended fights. On short encounters Regen is skippable; on long ones the team that runs out of EP first loses the damage race.
How the roles click together
The canonical fight loop, using a water-team example from our water team guide:
That is the whole theory of Aniimo combat in four beats: Break, buff, burst, sustain. Every team archetype is a variation on it — the lightning team for example drops the Healer entirely and gambles on ending fights before step 4 matters.
Reading a creature's role
- Stats telegraph the role: high ATK numbers point at DPS; a 104 BREAK stat on a creature like Blazen screams Break specialist
- Skill kits confirm it: direct recovery skills mean Heal; EP restoration means Regen; resist-shred and damage-up means Support
- The dex lists roles — check any creature's entry in our creature dex before committing materials

FAQ
What are the combat roles in Aniimo?
Five roles: DPS (main damage), Break (fills the enemy break meter to create stun windows), Support (buffs and debuffs), Heal (direct recovery) and Regen (EP restoration that keeps the team's skill loop running in long fights).
What does the Break role do in Aniimo?
Break specialists attack the enemy's break meter — when it fills, the enemy enters a broken state: stunned and taking a burst of extra damage. Break is considered the second-most important slot after DPS because it creates the damage windows the team lives in.
What is the difference between Heal and Regen in Aniimo?
Healers restore HP directly — they keep the team alive. Regen creatures restore EP, the energy that powers skills — they keep the team casting. Short fights can skip Regen; long boss fights feel the missing engine fast.
Do I need all five roles on a team?
Not literally — teams are four to six creatures deep and the right balance depends on content. The rule that holds: every team needs DPS and Break pressure, and bossing content demands sustain (Heal or Regen, ideally with a plan for both).
